Jalan Jalan Sri Lanka : Ella

Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim

Ella. Amazing views. Waterfalls. Tea factories.  Great food. That’s all I can say. A very small town. Probably a village. Situated high up on a mountain about 8km from the city of Bandarawela. In fact, Ella is the highest village in Sri Lanka. A great place for eco travellers.

We started our journey from Kandy by train. Previously we planned to go to Nuwara Eliya instead of Ella. But there are few blogs that i read saying Ella has better views and worth a visit. How i wish we have enough time for Nuwara Eliya too.

Beramai2 menunggu train, termasuk beberapa orang mat saleh backpackers.
Berenti jap amik orang.
15km/j? ko biar btol.
Lepak kat kantin. For 5 hours.
Nekma looks happy, kan?

The train was quite packed and this is where it started to get interesting. We had our place in the train canteen. Sat on the floor and we are happy about it. Why?

This is why...THE VIEW!
gah gah gahh...
Sangat suka jenguk ke luar tingkap, enjoying the view. Smells green.
Haha, masa ni ada pakcik jual mangga dengan semangat mengajak kami tengok sesuatu yang marvelous, sy dah mcm pleknye, nak suruh beli mangga ke? rupa2nye, he was right! Sangat baik hati ini penjual mangga. It's a waterfall.
Eh eh, siapa kat belakang nekma tu?
Tea plantations.
...and lots of tea plantations.
Its getting full in the canteen too. oh~oh. No place to seat. dot.

Aunty tepi tingkap.
Keretapi konar lipat.

It took us 7 hours in a packed train to arrive in Ella. We met two French guys on the train, they are very nice and helpful, being us, not to know which way to go, main hentam je berjalan,  luckily we met them. Ah, dah terlupa pun nama diorang. Sampai hati. Ingat sorang tu suka kaji kelawar dan sorang lagi musician.  Anyway, we followed them to their booked guesthouse; don’t get me wrong, we had our own room. Jangan buat keje gila gini yer, please book your stay before arriving in Ella. It was a long ride and we arrived at night. Sangat gelap. When we arrived at the train station, not a single tuktuk was around. Sangat bertuah jumpa mamat2 ini. There was a van waiting for them and apa lagi, we jumped in la, tumpang. We stayed at the Hilltop Guesthouse.
Jalan naik ke guesthouse. Malam2 mak aih, sangat lah gelap.
Kena tidur pakai kelambu, banyak nyamuk.

The next day, we hired a tuktuk (the cheapest mode of transportation for short distance) to get around Ella. Our first stop early in the morning, Little Adam’s Peak. Little Adam’s Peak is 1141m high and was named after Adam’s Peak due to its similar shape. It was a short climb that took at least 45 minutes to its peak. On the top, marvellous view of Ella Gap valley and Ella Rock.
Budak sekolah nak pergi sekolah.
Memanjat oh memanjat...

View towards Ella rock.

The peak, macam Broga la plak kan.

Next stop, the Nine Arches railway bridge which was built by the British. People were walking on the rail, it seems like they know the train timing. But, we don’t. Ahah, but we did walk on the rail of at least 3km straight up to the train station.

The Nine Arches bridge
Tengok pakcik2 tuh relax je kan jalan atas rail.
And, kitorang pun apa lagi, teknik posing kaki atas rail.
Berjalan dalam terowong
Posing duduk pulak...
Ini memang sipi2. Masa tengah penat, relax jap sambil minum air, tiba2, bunyik keretapi lalu. Selamaat!

Then, layan makcik2 cabut teh.......

And, the rock temple....

And...this is my favorite part, the LUNCH! great food......sedap gileeeee....all vegies.

Ah!, menjilat jari...terasa sihat.

Then.....,
Ravana Fall is one of the widest fall in Sri Lanka and about 25m high. It was named after a character from Indian epic, Ramayana.Ada some kind of a pool di bawah, apa lagi rendam kaki la kan....
Memang gambar ni pergh! dari hujung ke hujung. Ini lah powernya wide lens.

And...the other side of the bridge to the hill.

Dan, bukti dah sampai...ahahahah.
That, wrapped up our one day trip to Ella, Ive decided that i need a fresh brewed milk tea for a break after a tiring day.

Alamak, tiba2 teringin chai....
...and, papadom hangus. Wondering why, semua papadom kat Sri Lanka hangus? ahahahah
Dan, steak tuna, yang x berapa lah nk impressive pun. Tapi layan laa...perut lapo....makan share2. Jimat.
